My wife just asked me why I'm posting so many details about the mundane day-to-day stuff that I'm dealing with.
The first reason is for transparency sake -- Sometimes I'm debugging a problem and the site goes silent. I think it's better to keep everyone informed with what's going on even when there bad news or if I'm pulling my hair out trying to get something to work that probably has a really simple solution.
I also assume that a lot of the people reading this are skimming the posts for what they find interesting.
I also wanted to document the process for how I go about making this film for others who might want to try a similar approach.
I'm fortunate enough to have a technical background to be able to start bridging the gap between the technologists and the producers of content. At the SXSW conference in Austin, the Interactive and Filmmaking conferences are separate, but happen at the same time. As far as I could tell, I was the only filmmaker who was focusing entirely on the Interactive conference and parties without going to any Film screenings or Film panels.
My filmmaking advisor Brian Newman told me that the Interactive World and Filmmaking World are literally two different worlds both at SXSW and in the larger context of the film industry. There is some overlap with DVD distribution, but by and large the two worlds haven't fully converged just yet.
Newman advised me to keep pushing forward with the Drupal site and to add more multimedia to start bringing the film folks in. After I finally debugged the problems I was having with the images on Friday, then this will become easier.
